The Art of the Zorb
Do you Zorb? I do. At least, I did. That’s me in the ball rolling down the hill – that’s what those wacky New Zealanders invented, and THAT’S what I did on my summer vacation! How ’bout you – tell me what you’ve done so far this summer (even if it’s boring) and be entered to win a $50 gift certificate to my shop!

I got to go to Mexico for 1 week with 5 of my girl friends. We swam with dolphins, snorkled, parasailed, hung out on the beach or the pool all day and then we went to shows at the hotel at night. What more could you want to do during vacation. Swimming with the dolphins was the best part.

I flew to Florida to meet my husband, who was coming into Key West on the Schooner Amistad. We hung around the keys for a few days, lots of fun. BUT, my favorite thing was feeding flamingos! They ate from our hands and were very beautiful and gentle. I’ll never forget it.

Summer is flying by…we have gone camping, played at the beach, the pool, the splashpark, the backyard, the basement, the bathtub and friends homes. In fact, there’s been a whole lotta play, instead of a lotta gotta go that we get during the school year. The kids had sleepovers in our room in their little playtents, we eat popsicles and cereal for supper if it’s really hot, we water the flowers and pile up to read some good books. Oh summer…slow down and stay for awhile:)

wow! Zorbing – who knew?! I didn’t. Sounds like lots of fun! New Zealand sounds amazing. This summer has been a staycation for us. Two spring break trips was enough. So, we’ve gone to the new piedmont park pool and joined as members, and went to the free Screen on the green. Also went to Toy Story 3 in 3D w/my two kids. Summer camps and some much needed yard work (new brick patio). Going to the Lake for july 4th was a great family holiday! That’s what we’ve been up to.
Jul. 19, 2010 at 02:36am By jan
I’ve done nothing as exciting as zorbing, that’s for sure!
How fun! We are heading to the lake next week. Other than that, I am hanging with my boys.
Jul. 19, 2010 at 02:41am By Elizabeth
Going to Disney in a few weeks — but, if my kids find out about Zorbing, have a feeling they would request a bit of a detour! Looks like a lot of fun!
Otherwise, just taking time to visit with friends and family as time permits.

Hi! I went to Milwaukee, WI for THE LARGEST bead show in the world! My sister and I got 1/3 of the way through it in four hours when we were pooped and out of money. She and I also had a jewelry yard sale in her front yard and I sold nearly $300 of my jewelry!

I decided to barter with some friends and traded one of my mosaic designs for a weekend stay in a house in N.H.. I did this in order to celebrate my parents 50th wedding anniversary – the entire family came including my parents of course, my siblings, spouses , offspring and our dog! The whole family went out wearing nerdy white matching polo shirts that my brother ordered – they were embroidered with a description of the 50th anniversary event. 50 years – wowie zowie, hats off to Bill and Barbara!

Just got back from hanging out with cousins in San Francisco and then southern Oregon! One highlight was walking the outdoor labyrinth at Grace Cathedral in San Francisco, after attending service! Gathered stones on the Ocean shore. Brought back freshly harvested garlic from my cousin’s garden, on the airplane! We all learned more about the Family Tree from comparing notes with one another!

The summer has been a fine line balancing LIFE… between work (starting my own on-line “local” magazine), spending as much time as possible with my 8 year old who is on the verge of thinking Mommy is no longer COOL (that’s my heart you hear breaking), my almost 5 year old who is handicapped and keeping him happy INSIDE (the wheelchair is WAY to hot for too long in the HEAT of the south), my husband who’s job decides travel is a “good thing” and just being me and enjoying whatever LIFE throughs my way….WHEEEEE!!!
I guess I have to admit, I am a fall/winter girl at heart, but love the feel of flip-flops in the summer for sure!!! And as far as doing something fun this summer… I am currently at the beach with my girlfriend and that’s good enough for me… sleep, chat, drink and eat… what more could a girl ask for?

I have been busy chasing my 2 and 3 year olds around! We leave for TopSail Beach this Saturday for some R&R (yeah right…not with these silly kiddos!). Would LOVE to try Zorbing…what fun! I have also scrapped a few pages and read a few fun books…most recently “The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake.” Highly recommended….thanks for the opportunity to win!

We head out for our second soccer event this Friday……gotta love it…..family, fields and fun!

Well, Everyone else seems to have had such great stories to tell. Alas, my summer has been filled with the chaos of three children and a Great Dane puppy on steroids!
Let’s see…potty training a two year old who only seems to want to pee in the dog’s water bowl…and the puppy only wants to drink from the toilet!
Cleaning my other two kids’ rooms, only to discover 52 empty Diet Coke cans under one bed,and 36 wads of gum stuck under the other!
I did get new Copic markers, and I started making ATCs. Some of them were really pretty good. Well, they were, until the two year old thought that they looked better floating in the toilet!
I probably could use some Prozac, but I have decided to embrace the crazy! Yesterday, we tattooed ourselves with washable markers….and so what if the baby did her face and her white blond hair….we had the best time ever!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will be heading back to Babahoyo, Ecuador for 8 days as a medical team member at the end of August. Our team is a passionate group of medical and non-medical professionsals who provide yearly services for the most genuine, compassionate, and grateful people I have enver met in my life. They give back to me more than I can ever expect to give to them; a sense of value, caring, thankfulness, and love.

We traveled to New Mexico on our big summer adventure. We spent 1 day in ALB, three in Santa Fe, and 2 in Taos. Shopped for cool artwork and jewelry along the Turquoise Trail, ate some amazing southwest food, and took some beautiful pictures of sunsets. Everything I love in one special week!

Mostly getting my head into a positive place since my new status. The best way I figure I can honor my husband’s passing is to embrace life to the fullest. My daughter loves her camp and even though I offered her an exciting one with horseback riding, archery, kayaking, etc., she has learned the real lesson in life, and wants to be at the less adventurous one where her friends play. I lost some money on her request, but feel I won the “war;” since, a true lesson in life was learned. It’s not want you do in life that matters, but who you do it with!

Hey, Allison! I just revamped my kids’ outdated, not-very-functional bathroom! Peeled five layers of wallpaper, textured, primed, painted, put in new tile, cabinets, fixtures, etc. Turned out great! Did most of it ourselves. I’m proud!
Hoping to go celebrate now with a vacation in the mountains. Must escape this Texas heat!

Trips with the family to Disney World & my parents’ Missouri farm, celebrated my sister being a 1 year breast cancer survivor, and all the usual kid stuff (camps, pool, swim team, monitoring wii usage)… but the best has been having time off from my job to devote to art. I turned 40 this summer and made a promise to myself to make art every day – even if it’s little bitty art. My discovery… this is my happy place.

I’ve been taking my son on “new adventures”! Sometimes right here at home (Southern Louisiana)& we took a trip to South Carolina. Since the unfortunate oil spill, we have been sticking closer to home and exploring “new” places that are no more than an hour away (to save gas/environment). I usually kill all plants, but we have been working on taking care of plants/gardening, as well as what we can do to help the world a little more and help take care of it’s animals. I have made it a point not to keep the oil spill a secret from him, and to show him what can happen when things go wrong. We are learning how to take care of our earth and the animals that live on it. (He even donated his train money in his piggy bank to the Audubon Institute to help save the aquatic animals/birds that are brought in due to the spill.) Low key, but learning! That’s our summer this year!

And hatching and bringing home more pet CHICKENS!!! Hey, I haven’t bought store bought eggs since April! Yay self sufficientcy (uh at least on a small scale). Hope to get away for a few days…camping, beach,….OH! And YES, there is a ZORBING roll in my future!!! Thanks Allison!

Well…this is the first summer I have been ‘at home’ in years! I lost my job in February and still have not found a new one. So I guess you could say that this summer is a ’stay-cation’ in beautiful Michigan. A day trip to Greenfield Village, a trip to Comerica Park for a Tigers game, and a fun trip to the Detroit zoo….and delightful time crafting and reading in my beautiful backyard garden during the day!

Discovered you art in a store in Media, PA while visiting my college roommate, and looked up your site thinking of getting her a piece of your art as a “thanks for letting me visit, you’re an awesome friend” kind of random gift.
Also moved from New Orleans to Detroit. Whew.

Tried to create a little bit of art here and there. Spent time appreciating my (now) 6-month old grandson. Renovating my elderly in-laws’ house to sell so they can live more simply. Starting a brilliant landscape design (hopefully) for our front yard. Daydreaming of Paris and Italy.

Wow! I want to Zorb! It also rhymes with my last name: “Korb has gone off to zorb.”
This summer I chased kids around and taught tree-climbing at my summer camp job. After that, I galloped on horses and rappelled off cliffs in Coyote Canyon near San Miguel, Mexico. Then I went to the UK where I worked as a street musician, was soggy for a week long camping/ hiking trip in Cumbria, worked on an organic farm, and climbed tress to pick wild cherries, which we used to make cherry pie (yum). After that I went to Alaska where I kayaked, braved white water rapids, attempted the most difficult hikes I’ve ever encountered, and even randomly ran in to one of my co-workers in a small cafe in the middle of nowhere. I love coincidences!
